On 29 November 2022, the Victorian Racing Tribunal (VRT) considered three (3) charges issued by Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) Stewards against licensed driver Simon Jardine under Australian Harness Racing Rule (AHRR) 173(1).

AHRR 173(1) reads as follows:

A driver shall not bet in a race in which the driver participates

It was alleged that on 28 August 2020, Mr Jardine used his wagering account to place two (2) bets on races that he participated in as a driver.

It was further alleged that on 2 October 2020, Mr Jardine used his wagering account to place one (1) bet on a race that he participated in as a driver.

Mr Jardine pleaded guilty to all of the charges before penalty submissions were made on behalf of the HRV Stewards and by Mr Jardine.

Penalty

Charge 1 – $750 fine.

Charge 2 - $750 fine, wholly concurrent with the fine on Charge 1.

Charge 3 – $750 fine.

The total effective penalty was a $1500 fine.
