Brett Day will return as Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) Chief Steward after a short absence.

Day had served as Chairman of Stewards from June 2018 until August this year before announcing a move interstate, but he and his family have decided to return to Melbourne for personal reasons and he will resume the lead steward’s role with HRV.

In his Integrity Matters column, General Manager of Integrity Brent Fisher said it was “great news for HRV as Brett is a highly respected member of the integrity team”.

“Brett is an outstanding and exceptional young leader, whose dedication is unmatched,” Fisher said.

“He would be a 24/7 operator, always willing to go above and beyond and all the while bringing others along the journey with him. Our junior staff reach out to Brett and he’s always welcomed that role of developing them.”

Day has been a steward since 2008, with roles in New South Wales thoroughbreds and Queensland harness before joining HRV in 2011.

Fisher has also announced that the ranks will be strengthened by the return of highly respected steward Barry Delaney, who had retired but will return in a casual capacity in coming months.
